Chief Stephen Fante / 1301

Chief Fante joined the Ballardsville Fire Department in 1995 as a recruit. Over his career, his dedication to the fire service, and to the personnel he supervised, lead to him being appointed Chief of the department in January of 2006. Chief Fante was then hired as the paid Chief on December 28th, 2006.

Chief Fante prides himself in being able to lead his personnel in fire protection for the fire district. His excellence in leadership has earned the respect of the personnel and members of the community & his peers in Public Safety in the county.

Assistant Chief Jonathan Barr / 1302

Assistant Chief Barr joined the Ballardsville Fire Department in February 1997, and was appointed Assistant Chief in January 2006. He currently fills the role of Training Officer for the department, and oversees all instructors, along with coordinating activities with the Oldham County Fire Instructors Association.

While not training Firefighters for Ballardsville, Chief Barr is a career Captain with the Mt. Washington Fire District in Bullitt County.

Chief Barr prides himself by being able to coach, play, and lead with some of the most “top notch” firefighters in the industry.

Assistant Chief Michael Thompson / 1303

Assistant Chief Thompson began his involvement in the fire service in May of 1995 with the Jacksonville Fire Department in Alabama. After moving to Kentucky in March of 1997 he joined the Ballardsville Fire Department. He was appointed Assistant Chief in September of 2009 and is charge of Logistics, Information Technology, Public Information Officer, and the Chief Engineer for the department.

When away from the department Chief Thompson is a career Aircraft-Rescue Firefighter / Police Officer for the Louisville International Airport.

Assistant Chief Matthew Neuner / 1304

Assistant Chief Neuner joined the Ballardsville Fire Department in 1997, and was appointed Assistant Chief in September 2009. Chief Neuner is in charge of Operations and Maintenance of the departmental apparatus, along with supervision of all of the Volunteer Staff.

Chief Neuner’s long love for classic automobiles and attention to detail in mechanics makes the apparatus always be ready when the call comes in.
