Text Box: Training Division
Training, Practice, Experience, Judgment

The Training Division is lead by Asst. Chief / Training Officer Jonathan Barr who prides himself in providing the firefighters of the BFD the best in training. Training is conducted on Mondays from 7pm - 10pm. The BFD conducts in-house training, and also routinely conducts Mutual Aid training with our neighboring depts. We have an excellent training program that uses a mixture of hands-on, and classroom lessons. We received a FEMA grant in 2003 for $20,000.00 and purchased a complete interactive computer system so our Firefighters can take classes they are interested in at their own pace, along with state-of-the-art audio / visual equipment. We belong to the Oldham County Instructors Assoc., and use the county training facility that includes a three story training tower, motor vehicle extrication prop, firefighter survival prop, along with an on-site classroom. We also participate in several Live Fire Trainings every year to give our Firefighter hands-on training of what it is like to be inside of a house fire. Just completed was an Auto Extrication Clinic open to all firefighters in the area to better prepare for numerous types of motor vehicle accidents. All persons wanting to become Firefighters with the BFD are required to complete a Basic 20 hour Orientation / Training Program before they are allowed to respond to an emergency incident.
