October 20, 2007

16 personnel from Oldham County completed the Hazmat Technician course on October 19th for the Kentucky EMA Area 6 WMD / Hazmat Team. Personnel from Ballardsville, South Oldham, LaGrange, Pewee Valley, North Oldham, & OCEMS participated in the class instructed by Eric Duffy & Mike Stone of OAI, Inc. Students donned Level A suits, set up DECON, practiced response drills, & studied aspects of what and how to respond in a hazmat or weapon of mass destruction incident. Area 6 WMD / Hazmat is comprised of equipment & personnel staged in facilities in Oldham, Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Trimble, & Henry counties that can be pulled together in the event of a incident in our area, or dispatched to other areas in Kentucky , or other States if needed. South Oldham Fire & Rescue hosted the 40 hour course. Special thanks to John Fekete, Eric Duffy, & Mike Stone for the organization of the class.
