Training Division - Training, Practice, Experience, Judgement
The Training Division is led by Deputy Chief / Training Officer Phil Coggeshall who prides himself in providing the firefighters of the Ballardsville Fire Department the best training opportunities possible. Training is conducted on Mondays from 7pm - 10pm. We conduct in-house training, and also routinely train with our neighboring departments. We have an excellent staff consisting of 14 certified Instructors that use a mixture of hands-on, and classroom lessons. We belong to the Oldham County Fire Instructors Association (OCFIA), and use the OCFIA training facility that includes a new two story training building, motor vehicle extrication prop, firefighter survival prop, vehicle fire prop, flash-over container, along with an on-site classroom. We also participate in several live fire trainings every year to give our firefighters the most realistic training experience possible. Just completed was an Auto Extrication Clinic open to all firefighters in the area to better prepare for numerous types of motor vehicle accidents. All persons wanting to become Firefighters with the Ballardsville Fire Department are required to complete a basic 20 hour orientation / training program before they are allowed to respond to an emergency incident.
